Members update
6th August 2004

Some members and some very senior officers have questioned whether my recounting of events on Monday was accurate and asked if I had slanted my report unfairly in our favour,

Christina Jebb, chair of that meeting and a liberal democrat councillor, quite independent from our side and indeed from the labour led employers side, has been forced to resign for speaking out and confirming what I have previously reported to you.

To those who think the label ‘nasty’ when talking about Nick Raynsford is unfair; look at what he has done.

He ordered the agreed deal to be scuppered and the wreckers to vote no even though they had no idea what they were voting on.

Those councillors were not in full charge of their own understanding of what was going on. They were not fully aware of their own requirements nor the effect of their voting. They were not in full understanding of their effect on voting nor indeed the effect their thinking, or wit, would have on the outcome.

Anything less than full control of their wit, or thought process is quite fair to be reported as less than that. Therefore they are indeed halfwits.

That out of the way. Nasty Nick can fairly be likened to Fagan. He has bullied others into robbing at his request. He has forced them into doing his want.

Christina Jebb is honourable. She is determined and she is honest. Members have to ask who has been lying.

Is it our negotiators. No. I’ve reported to you exactly what has gone on.

Is it the chair of those negotiations?

No Christina Jebb has been forced to resign for speaking the truth.

Is it Nasty Nick Raynsford and Vicious Val Shawcross who have lied?

Well you don’t have to take my word for it. Ask them. The ODPM and parliament website have links to Ransford and his contact details. London Fire Authority website has links to Val Shawcross. Ask them for their version of what went on and why they insist you vote yes for a strike.

We do not want to strike. So why does this labour government want us to?

Is it because we voted at conference to disaffiliate from them and protest at their war on Iraq and search for weapons of mass destruction which could be used in 45 minutes? Weapons never found?

Is it because we said money spent on that war would be better spend on the health service, fire service and education at home?

Are we targeted so Nasty Nick and Vicious Val can come back from their holiday together and act as saviours to further their political careers?

The employers have refused to talk to us. They believe you are happy with what has gone on and will agree to their demands.

They believe you are happy to fit smoke detectors on Christmas Day and to be paid normal rates of pay for it.

If you are happy with what they have done to you agree with them and vote to accept their demands in the ballot.

If you think they have lied, if you want more talks to take place, and if you think they have treated you badly vote yes to industrial action.

THEY WONT TALK TO US IF YOU DON’T VOTE YES FOR INDUSTRIAL ACTION.

The more we expose their lies the more they lie and cover up what has gone on.

Christina Jebb is the victim of bullying and harassment. The London Labour Party, Nick Raynsford and Val Shawcross are bullies and thugs.

Stand up to bullies.

Don’t accept their attack on you. Vote for action so we can force them to talk.

What can you do?

Contact your MP. Ask them to investigate.

Contact the chair and vice chair of your fire authority and ask them to establish what has gone on.

Contact directly your local labour party. Ask them for an explanation even if you are not a member. Treating trade unionists this way is unacceptable.

Contact the liberal democrats and send a message of support to them and contact Staffordshire Fire Authority (all on web sites) and send a message of support to Christina Jebb.Contact the Conservatives locally and ask why they supported Labour in the negotiations which was purely to cause Labour trouble. Ask them why politics mean more than people or a fair settlement to our long running dispute.Attend your branch meetings. And of course, most importantly, vote yes to industrial action. It’s the only way we can move forward.
