Negotiations are continuing tonight in London at the Connault
Rooms Holborn and will go on late into tonight. I left at lunchtime
today and the Employers, our EC and the negotiators from each side
are still negotiating on the following:
1 Professional Pay Rate
2 Parity of Pay for Retained members
3 Pay equality for control staff
4 A new and sustainable pay formula
The negotiators on our side are Andy Gilchrist, Mike Fordham and
Ruth Winters. The employers side are represented by their negotiators
who are Charles Nolda, Phil White and Ted George.
I have called a regional meeting of each Brigades Secretary and
Chair from within the region. We will meet at 1pm On Sunday at Didcott
Fire Station
I must emphasise that the strike date planned for Wednesday
6th November is still very much on. Pickets leaders armbands will
be on Branches by Monday morning for our campaign lines.
Negotiations are positive and points on hourly rates and parity
as well as who we should fairly be compared to have been discussed.
Our ballot result shows the depth of feeling among members and what
they believe is the fair rate.
I sincerely hope we can avoid industrial action but remain convinced
of our arguments for a fair rate of pay for all members of the fire
service and for the need of a new, sustainable and fair pay formula
both for today and for tomorrow.
Dean Mills
Regional Secretary
